De Telefoondienst

In the middle of the green heart of the Watergraafsmeer, De Telefoondienst has been realized. AHAM Vastgoed has transformed the former telephone exchange from 1923 into a special living and working environment. The complex on the corner of Middenweg and Kamerlingh Onneslaan offers space for a varied mix of homes, business premises, and studios.

De Telefoondienst has a unique location, directly on Park Frankendael, and has been developed with an eye for quality into a sustainable meeting place for the neighborhood. By preserving historical details and a completely new structure, history and the future come together in De Telefoondienst.

In addition to homes, several commercial spaces and studios will be on the ground and first floors. Entrepreneurs, artists, and residents will share the building and meet each other in the shared courtyard. In this way, De Telefoondienst will become a place where living and working come together.

The corner building is very easily accessible, centrally located in the Watergraafsmeer. This is Amsterdam at its best: on the street side you experience the hustle and bustle of the city, while the building overlooks the greenery of Park Frankendael at the rear.

The Amsterdam architectural firm Ronald Janssen Architects worked with great care on the design for De Telefoondienst, commissioned by developer and landlord AHAM Vastgoed.

The building has an elegant two-story structure, based on the symmetrical proportions of the building. The extension is contemporary, but thanks to its refined details, it beautifully matches architect Albert Boeken’s original design. For example, the superstructure is made of flamed granite, the same material used in the original ornaments and eaves of the building. Concerning the original, the building has now been given a new function: a contemporary building where working and living come together.
