De Telefoondienst
De Telefoondienst has been realized in the green heart of Watergraafsmeer. The former telephone exchange from 1923 has been transformed by AHAM Vastgoed into a unique residential and working environment. The complex on the corner of Middenweg and Kamerlingh Onneslaan offers space for a varied mix of homes, commercial spaces, and studios.
De Telefoondienst has a unique location, right next to Park Frankendael, and is being developed with an eye for quality into a sustainable meeting place for the neighborhood. With its historical details preserved and a completely new structure, De Telefoondienst brings history and the future together.
In addition to residential units, there will be several commercial spaces and studios on the ground floor and mezzanine. Entrepreneurs, artists, and residents will share the building and meet in the shared courtyard. This will make De Telefoondienst a place where living and working come together.
The corner building is very accessible, centrally located in the Watergraafsmeer district. This is Amsterdam at its best: on the street side, you experience the hustle and bustle of the city, while the rear of the building overlooks the greenery of Frankendael Park.
The Amsterdam-based architectural firm Ronald Janssen Architecten has worked meticulously on the design for De Telefoondienst, commissioned by developer and landlord AHAM Vastgoed.
The building will have an elegant two-story structure, based on the symmetrical proportions of the existing building. The extension is contemporary, but thanks to its refined details, it will blend beautifully with the original design by architect Albert Boeken. For example, the structure will be made of flamed granite, the same material used in the original ornaments and roof edges of the building. With respect for the original, the building will now be given a new function: a contemporary building that combines working and living.
