AHAM Vastgoed is a contender for the Geurt Brinkgreve Cup 2025
We are proud that our project 'De Telefoondienst' has been selected alongside six other wonderful projects. The Geurt Brinkgreve Cup is an award that has recognized valuable heritage development and transformation in Amsterdam since 2006. The preselected projects stand out because they breathe new life into inner-city locations and add vibrancy to buildings where there was none before. That is exactly what AHAM aimed for and achieved at this location.
Ronald Janssen Architects were responsible for the design of the transformation and construction of the 1923 telephone exchange. Once a place where servers and patch cabinets stood, history and future now come together. Historical details are preserved in the 33 apartments, including social and mid-range rental homes, and (semi) commercial space. All the hours and attention that Ronald and his team put into the project can be experienced in and around the building, and the residents enjoy it every day.
Bouwers van Braam Minnesma realized the project, and as recognized restorers, their craftsmanship and knowledge of historic buildings came in handy. J.Jonker en Zonen turned the semi-public entrance garden into the desired link between the park and the building. With the (re)use of materials that will last for centuries, the site and the building have been given the new life they deserve.
We would like to thank the municipality of Amsterdam, the East district in particular, for their trust and nomination, the jury for all their attention during the visit, and all other partners who embraced the project. We look forward to seeing you on December 16 at the Zuiderkerk.
